Day 284 - Tree contrast

Had a lovely afternoon/evening with our godkids and their parents. We went to the park, had a yummy lamb supper, and carved a pumpkin. As Peg was pushing 'E' on the swing I, of course, was snapping pictures. As I was walking around to get a better vantage point I found this lonely red leaf among the wood chips. I like the contrast of the dark red next to the pale chips. Despite the differences between the leaf and chips they both have the same roots; they come from a tree.

Day 114 - Swinging Seeds

Was over at Mike's place playing with my goddaughter. We were having a great time swinging, digging and listening to the birds sing. As usual I had my camera with me. I saw this tree and took a few shots. I like how the front is focused while the background is not. I also like the blend of colours. Now, I just have to figure out what kind of tree it is.

Day 103 - Early or Late?

I saw a robin in our flowering crab tree and thought I'd grab my camera and try to get a few shots. Although I went out quietly, Dexter decided to follow me out not so discretely. By not so discretely I mean running and barking of course. Once Dexter said hello to all the outdoor creatures he settled down to sniffing and a familiar friend reappeared. Not the robin as I was expecting but a Bohemian Waxwing. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, the Waxwings usually show up early in the spring before the snow is melted. I'm not sure if this fellow was late or if it's just that our spring is early this year but he hung around and ate some berries. He seemed comfortable with the camera. In fact, I think I even caught him posing now and then.

Day 79 - Shades of Blue

This is one of my favourite trees in the neighbourhood. It's a Linden tree. Soon it will be full of leaves and then in the Summer, fragrant white flowers will appear.
The tree is at the entrance to our crescent so I see it everyday on the way home from work or from walking the dogs. It never fails to make me smile, no matter the season. I'm not sure if it's the shape, the fullness, the smell or maybe all of it.
This picture was taken at sunset. The sky was striated with shades of blue and purple. I couldn't resist the combination of my favourite tree and favourite colour, blue.

Day 72 - Veins of Life

Out walking again today. It was near sunset so I thought I tried to capture that Blue 60 thing. Peg was standing under this tree and called me over. She said when she looked up the branches looked like veins seen on an angiogram. I'm not sure I see it but I like the blue background. Either way, it's all about life.

Day 45 - Winter Green

Today we went walking in the woods. It's relaxing for us and the dogs LOVE being off lead. As always, I brought my camera along, hoping to snap a few shots. My focus seemed to be tree closeups. I chose this one because it gives us a little bit of green no matter the season or temperature. When you look at the picture closely it almost looks like another mini forest.

Day 44 - Trees grow up, right?

Out walking today this tree caught our eye. Maybe the tree stands out because it is different from most. We are all used to seeing tree branches reach for the sky while this one seems to be reaching for its roots. I may be stretching it a bit but this tree says to me, "It's okay to be different. That's what makes the world such a wonderful place." People often fear or dislike that which is different or out of the ordinary. I think this tree reminds us to embrace difference and learn from it.

Day 37 - A Pine 'Tree-o'

I apologize for the possibly corny pun in the title. Sometimes I just can't help myself. The carnival parade passes very close to our house and we considered attending and getting some snapshots of Bonhomme Carnival but decided we didn't want to face the crowds. We settled for a late afternoon walk instead. As we were walking Peg discovered this trio of pine cones up in the tree. I took a few shots. I didn't have my zoom lens so I couldn't get very close. I had to crop and zoom in digitally. We chose this pic for the contrast of colours. The branches in the background almost look like palm trees. Wishful thinking on a cold February afternoon. Stay warm.
