Day 312 - Story Hunting

The Moniques, Monique Polak and Monique Dykstra, came to our class today to share their expertise of writing and photography. They are part of the Quebec Roots program and are mentoring my class. My class is working towards completing a twelve page photo essay about their community. The pages will include different types of writing, poems, interviews, lists, with complimentary photos. The Moniques were very inspiring and helpful today and we're well on our way.
I captured 'S' as she was listening intently about 'hunting' for stories. I've put two versions of the photo here. I prefer the black and white and Peg likes the colour. What about you?

Day 171 - Happy Birthday Sarah!

Yesterday, we celebrated a life about to start. Today we had the privilege of celebrating one that has been being lived for forty years. We told Sarah that she is now 4 perfect 10's! Once again we had yummy food and enjoyable company. While there I had a great discussion with a mutual friend, Nat. We chatted about photography and we are now photo buddies. We've already planned a few photo shoot locations. It truly is a pleasure to share my photography passion with a fellow fanatic. In between discussions we ate and took pictures of course. The above picture was taken by Nat while she was playing with my camera. Thanks Nat. Here's to many more pictures and happy birthdays amongst friends.

Day 155 - Heart Rock

While some people may like Hard Rock, I myself prefer Heart Rock. Sorry, I couldn't resist the play on words. Once again, sharing my love of photography with others has paid off. All my students know how much I love taking pictures and that I'm always looking for an interesting and unique subject to capture. While at camp a few of my girls found this heart shaped rock and insisted that I take some photos of it. The pictures turned out okay but I didn't find the heart stood out enough so I played with it a bit in Photoshop. Tracing with a ball mouse is definitely a challenge but practice makes perfect.

Day 27 - National Literacy Day

I never need an excuse to buy magazines or books but today I had them. One, it's National Literacy Day; a time to appreciate our ability to read and the many literature options we have. Secondly, a couple of my students had given me gift certificates to Renaud Bray for Christmas and I hadn't used them yet. Finally, I had some rare extra time in my day and I happened to be close to a mall. Although it is a primarily French book store I was able to find some English material. I chose a couple of photography magazines a very appealing novel. I look forward to diving into my reading zone. In fact, I think I'll go do that right now.
