Day 318 - Honouring the Loggers

I seem to be posting late these days. Life is busy with marking, report cards, portfolios and the day to day stuff. The week ahead promises to be even busier. I'm posting tonight so I can at least start the week off on the right foot. The good news is that after this week things should slow down slightly and I'll have more time to contemplate my photos and write my entries.
Managed a little fresh air and took a walk in Old Quebec again. This statue was tucked in between two buildings and caught my eye as I walked by. Due to parked cars I wasn't able to get all the logs in the photo. This statue was placed here in honour of the logger. To be honest we didn't have a long time to stop and read so I don't know much more about it. I guess I'll have to go back. The great part of living in Quebec City is that you can be a tourist year round.

Day 211 - Tourist at home

Today, Peg and I had lunch in Old Quebec and then went on a walking tour. We had some gift certificates and decided it was time to cash them in and reap the benefits of living in a city so rich in history. The above mural is painting on the side of a building in Place Royale. Due to people and event equipment I was unable to capture it in its entirety. It's a tapestry of historical events and people, cultural references, seasons and old and modern Quebec woven together. It's mesmerizing and you get the feeling you could walk right into it. A must see if you visit Quebec City.

Day 162 - More Quebec Architecture

Planned on taking pictures at our staff party this evening but due to a lame dog (Sadie) we couldn't go. So, I decided to use one of my pictures from our tourist day a couple of weeks ago. This is a picture of our train station. As you can see, the architecture is similar to that of the Chateau Frontenac. It's beautiful inside as well. Just inside the building there is a beautiful stained glass skylight on the ceiling. In the middle is a reversed map of Canada (East is on the left & west on the right) with the railway map and on the outside are all the provincial flags. When the sun shines through you can see the reflection on the granite floor . It's quite a sight.

Day 150 - Quebec Tourist

We had a nice visit with Peg's niece Ali and her husband Anthony today. They're on a cruise (Montreal, Quebec, Charlottetown, Halifax, Boston, Montreal) and their ship is docked here for the day. We met them at the port and walked around Old Quebec for a few hours before coming home for lunch. It was fun to see the city through tourist eyes. Although we live here we don't often take the time to explore this part of town. Of course, a set of tourist photos from Quebec City wouldn't be complete without a few shots of the famous Chateau Frontenac. The building is over 100 years old and is probably the most famous building in the city. It's definitely one of the most known.
