Day 62 -Challenge Day

It was a VERY busy week for Peg. When she wasn't cooking up a storm, she was planning our annual winter challenge. Due to unpredictable weather we've decided to have it indoors the last couple of years. Maybe we'll move back outside next year.
The kids spend two hours rotating through twelve stations. Depending on the theme of the year, the kids work on their cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility in theme activities. Last year we did variations on winter Olympic sports. We usually collect donations for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Each cycle is divided into 12 colour teams. The stations are run by student leaders from each cycle. The leaders spend a day with Peg prepping all the stations, equipment and learning how to lead the fun. The collage I put together from this year's event includes pictures that my photo assistant Em and I took. We couldn't get all the events but included aerial jumping, snowman circle tug-of-war, snowman tag, a suspicious picture of sock tag (which looks a lot like wrestling. Hmmmmm), summit race and curling. A great time was had by all.

Day 308 - Bad Banana

This may look like a slug but it's a rotting Dole banana. It caught my eye while I was walking through the field. I think it's in pretty good shape for being rotten. Hopefully as it decomposes it'll give it's nutrients to the earth because the kid who chucked it definitely didn't benefit from its potassium.

Day 286 - Baby Worf

Anyone who has watched Star Trek knows the very serious and often cranky character, Worf. Our friend Mike is a big Star Trek fan and after seeing his son 'D', we're convinced that it might be genetic. This is 'D's newest expression. He's not wearing the outfit and doesn't have a professional makeup artist but if you use your imagination you can see the likeness. From another character, Spock, to you all, "Live long and prosper."

Day 61 -Aspiring Photographer

Another night with godkids and friends. I took the opportunity to get some snapshots of 'S' and her little brother 'D'. Unfortunately, the cameras and lighting (or maybe photographer) weren't at their best. When we took the camera off to check things out, 'S' decided she'd take some of her own pictures using the tripod as her camera of choice. The photo itself isn't won't receive an A for technique, however the subject gets an A+ for cuteness. Of course, as her godmother, I may be just a little bit biased.

Day 36 - Talk to the Hand

Had a great visit with our god-kids yesterday. Yes, it was nice to see their parents too. We had a great time playing and exploring with them. Watching 'L' admire her favourite toy, her hand, made us realize how much we take our own for granted. We do so much with our hands; building, eating, touching, exploring, discovering, fixing (and sometimes breaking), caring, typing on our blogs,... You get the idea. As we do all these amazing 'feats' how many of us actually take the time to appreciate these precious gifts. I think maybe babies have the right idea when they take the time to bask in the wonder of their hands. Thanks for the reminder, 'L'.
