Udate 3 - Water Fun

On one of the last days of school, we went to the park with our PreKindergarten learning buddies. The kids painted t-shirts in the morning and then played on the games in the park. After lunch the water games were turned on. The kids, big and little, had a wonderful time running in and out of the water. At one point I had to put my camera down as one of my guys decided that I should get in on the fun.
I had my back to the water games, my first mistake, and suddenly felt cold water running down my back. When I turned around, Jay was holding a sponge ball in his hand and smiling. Once the electronics were safe I 'helped' Jay get wet under the games. I felt it was only fair to return the favour, right?
Once everyone had a chance to dry off a bit we headed to the parking lot to meet up with the ice cream truck. Everyone had a cone and then headed back to school. A great day was had by all!

Day 104 - Ice Cold

I drink a lot of water and I like my water COLD. The above picture is the top of a pitcher filled with water and ice. Yep, you guessed it - really cold water. I snapped a picture before pouring myself a drink. While Peg and I were looking through today's pics this one caught her eye. To her the ice kind of looked like rocks. I played with it a bit in Lightroom to make the ice cubes look more like rocks. Although the water was not moving the water does seem to be running down stream.
Well, all this talking of water has made me thirsty so I'm off to get a nice cold class of water before bed. It also makes me very grateful that I have the luxury of having such a valuable resource so readily available.

Day 88 - Blue Bubbles

I was looking at Peg's flowers today and noticed the bubbles on the stems below the surface. As I was trying to get pictures of the stems this lonely floating petal caught my eye. The petal is from the infamous 'blue' flowers that 'E' picked out. I find it interesting how the bubbles form on the bottom of the petal. You can also see the surface of the water. The tricky part was getting a clear shot through the vase. I would have liked clearer but this was the best I could manage.

Day 44 - Slow

Today was definitely a slow kind of day. Due to the heavy snow, it took me five hours to drive to Laval (near Montreal) instead of the regular three hours. The roads were tricky so there was no rushing allowed. I spent much of the time on the highway traveling between 60 and 80 km/hr. Once I checked into the hotel and got settled I figured I'd try hooking up to the internet and catching up on my commenting. I managed to get online but it was extremely slow. I called for assistance and guess what, they were experiencing heavier demands than usual so I stayed on hold for about 5 minutes until someone came on. He asked me a few questions and then asked if he could put me on hold. I agreed but after 10 minutes of waiting, decided that it just wasn't meant to be. I hung up, called down to the front desk and canceled the internet service.
Now, it would have been easy to get frustrated and angry but all this slowness actually allowed for some very positive experiences. Since I was driving slow on the highway I was able to see a group of people on a sleigh ride traveling across one of the overpasses. I enjoyed viewing the snow covered trees and I believe driving slower actually saved me money on gas. The slow internet gave me the chance to enjoy reading my book and having a nice chat with Peg. Finally, it gave me time to find a shot that reflected the speed of the day. So, the next time life slows you down, remember to take the time to enjoy all the wonders around you. It sure beats getting angry and frustrated.

Day 271 - Running Water

After the gloriously hot, dry summer it is nice to see actual running water again in the riverbeds and creeks around Quebec City. We've had significant rainfalls of late with lots more in the forecast. While Mother Nature is sighing with relief, the teachers, parents and kids are anxious for a few sunny days. This is a small section of the St. Charles River we go over on the way to the farm.

Day 161 - Are we done yet?

The final countdown has begun, only 9 days left for the kids. For some, these days are a little bit longer because they stay at the daycare after school. If the weather cooperates they get to trek to the nearby park and play on the games and even in the water if it's warm enough. These young ladies, with stock in tow, are sitting in their line waiting to find out if today is a park day. Lucky for them it was. They even had a water fight with sponges. Unfortunately, I wasn't along for that part so I didn't get any water action shots. Maybe next time.

Day 16 - The Gift of Water

So much of what we do and see involves water. We take showers, make ice cubes, wash clothes and of course turn on the tap to get a drink of water whenever thirst hits. Not to mention the numerous water sports that many of us enjoy. Water is such a precious resource yet most of us take it for granted. We merely assume that when we need water it will be there.
However, when we look around the world we find people who appreciate water for the gift it is. These of course are the people who, unlike us, cannot just turn on a tap. Maybe we all could take a lesson from their 'fountain' of wisdom.
