Day 304 - Halloween Hockey

After handing out candy for awhile we had a bite to eat and headed off to watch one of my students play hockey. We were planning on going to yesterday's game but didn't make it. Although the points didn't go in their favour this evening it was a great game to watch. It's impressive to see how well these young players handle themselves on the ice. When we got home I loaded the pics onto the computer and did some playing in Photoshop. The above is a little portrait of J. Hope he likes it.

Day 131 - Rivals

So, along with the usual spring fever that we experience in Cycle 3 (Grades 5/6) we also have some serious cases of hockey fever. As you see in the photo there's definitely a difference in opinion among the students. After last night's game the school yard was filled with shirts, hats, mitts, etc. of the NHL teams still in the running for the Stanley Cup. For the most part, it's a friendly debate but things got quite heated when we were discussing probability in Math today. I'm not too sure I'm looking forward to the aftermath (pun intended) of game 7.

Day 59 - Salute to the unsung hero

Peg and I got up early this morning and went to a hockey game to watch a couple of our students play. It was an entertaining game to watch. Some players spent almost as much time on the ice as they did on their skates. Now, we're watching another entertaining but much more stressful match - Canada vs. USA. Definitely, one extreme to the other. However, no matter the level, time of day or arena there is at least one common factor - the ZAMBONI driver! The person who keeps the rink in top shape so hockey players of all sizes can play their best game. So, to all the Zamboni drivers out there - I salute you!

Day 31 -Good Ole Hockey Game

While out walking the dogs we passed by the neighbourhood skating rink. Some young guys were out playing hockey. I spotted a hole at the bottom of one of the boards so I lay down and took a few shots. I found the perspective interesting and the subject natural as he wasn't aware his picture was being taken.

Day 9 - Life's a Game

As a teacher, I enjoy having the opportunity to see my students outside the classroom pursuing their interests. I've seen students playing hockey, soccer, baseball, football, rugby, figure skating and acting. It's a small gesture that seems to mean a lot to the kids and their parents. It's also an opportunity for me to get to know my students better.
This evening I went to watch Dim play hockey. He scored a goal and came close to scoring three or four others. Here he is on a breakaway. It's not the best 'technical' photo I've taken but it captures his energy and enthusiasm. I plan on bringing my camera to future sporting events to work on my technique.
