Day 30 - Bohemians on a Wire

Our beautiful Bohemian Waxwings were back to snack on the apples on our Flowering Crab Apple tree. It was pretty cold and since I'm kind of sensitive to the cold right now I couldn't get as close as I wanted. I did manage to sneak out on the deck for a minute and snap a few shots. I caught this bunch of bohemians taking a break on the wire. You can't tell from the pic but they're very colourful birds. I've posted some closeups before. I never get tired of seeing them.

Day 360 - Boxing Day Birds

Was doing some cleaning and organizing inside when I looked out the window and saw our flowering crab apple tree filled with birds. I quickly grabbed my camera, put on my boots and headed outside. I tried to be quiet but I was still too noisy. Just as I got close enough to the tree to 'shoot', the birds flew away. I was waiting quietly hoping they would return and my patience was rewarded. I managed to get some shots of the Bohemian Waxwings and some cute little Chickadees. As I was shooting the flock suddenly flew away. However, this time I was not the cause. I realized that the woodpecker now on the telephone pole was the culprit. He moved quickly so I didn't get a great shot but wanted to include him just the same. The experience was definitely more fun than going to the stores today and a lot less crowded.

Day 103 - Early or Late?

I saw a robin in our flowering crab tree and thought I'd grab my camera and try to get a few shots. Although I went out quietly, Dexter decided to follow me out not so discretely. By not so discretely I mean running and barking of course. Once Dexter said hello to all the outdoor creatures he settled down to sniffing and a familiar friend reappeared. Not the robin as I was expecting but a Bohemian Waxwing. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, the Waxwings usually show up early in the spring before the snow is melted. I'm not sure if this fellow was late or if it's just that our spring is early this year but he hung around and ate some berries. He seemed comfortable with the camera. In fact, I think I even caught him posing now and then.
